More Help for Lahontan Trout
The Watershed Council is partnering on restoration of Lahontan cutthroat trout habitat with The Nature Conservancy, US Geological Survey and the Tahoe National Forest. This article covers the status of the Lahontan.
"At Independence Lake, one of only two lakes in the world with an indigenous population of Lahontan cutthroat trout, the threatened fish now are spawning at levels not seen since 1956.
"It's a real success story. They're coming back," said Gary Scoppettone, a cutthroat expert with the U.S. Geological Survey."
